Engagement Session at Deep Cut Gardens | Middletown New Jersey Photographer | Katie & Joe Engaged

April 16, 2018

I haven been so thirsty for blooming flowers and greenery, so fortunately I got just a little taste of my first blooms at Deep Cut Gardens in Middletown New Jersey for Katie and Joe’s engagement session! Originally we had this session scheduled for March, but because of super unpleasant weather we held off until the beginning of April. In the end, it worked out (and we didn’t freeze -which is always a plus).
Joe and Katie are seriously the sweetest. I am so thrilled that I will get to be with them for their October wedding at Trump National. I feel like all of my photo sessions end up being adventures, and this one was no different. When we pulled up to Deep Cut Gardens we were greeted with a giant ‘Park Closed’ sign and caution tape. The front lot was completely dirt with heavy machinery everywhere. No doubt someone forgot to tell us that the park was closed weekdays when we called and made the appointment for our permit.
Either way – we had waited too long and we were doing the session no matter what! Even though it involved crossing over some caution tape and scaling some dirt mounds, Joe and Katie didn’t miss a beat and we got some gorgeous photos. I even shot a roll of film for their session! So fun. The only bummer of the whole day was the fact that the greenhouse was closed for pesticide treatment (the greenhouse is a favorite of mine because it is loaded with succulents and cacti – and is there really anything better than those two plants?). Greenhouse or not, however – we had a blast and I already miss these two!
Also I just want to throw it out there that Joe’s sister Michelle is ah-mazing at hair and make-up, and I have had the honor of working with her several times. She did Katie’s hair and make-up for this session and it was perfection.
