Aly and Richie got married on the most sacred day for wedding photographers: the 21st night of September. True to the song, our hearts were ringin’ in the key that our souls were singin’ as we danced in the night. Sorry – I had to do it, and if you want to see me dance to this song, just go to my Instagram and you can watch an entire reel about the wedding!
When we were photographing this wedding, I remember family and friends telling us so many similarities about Aly and Richie and their families. Both their sets of parents were married on the same day, same year! Which is pretty wild in itself. It was pretty obvious that the two of them were just fated to be together.
I loved the subtle greens and floral from this wedding, and Aly is just such a queen. Take one look at this girl! She is just so regal!
I’ll let Aly tell you their sweet story in her own words:
How did you meet?
We met when we were juniors in college at Montclair State University. A friend of mine (Alyson) was dating a friend of his at the time and they set us up convinced we would be each other’s future boyfriend/girlfriend. Little did we know we’d end up getting married to one another 10 years later! We have been together ever since and have been were lucky enough to grow up together. We have accomplished so much in the last decade, both individually and as a couple, and are so excited for the next chapter in our story together!
What was the proposal like?
The proposal was one of the best days in both of our lives. I had a feeling it would be coming soon but really had no idea when. On a Saturday in July, we had plans to go out to lunch for his brother’s birthday weekend with him and his now wife (fiance at the time) at a ‘new restaurant’ in Bradley Beach, a place very special to the both of us and where we spent the first few summers of our relationship. That day his brother was suddenly not feeling well so Richie and I decided to still go out just the two of us. As we were leaving his family beach house in Lake Como and walking to his car the thought came across my mind that maybe he was planning to propose but I quickly got the idea out of my head as I did not want to be disappointed if that’s not what was happening. I could tell Richie was nervous in the car ride because he kept making random small talk and was driving extremely slow, bringing the idea back that maybe we were getting engaged. We arrived in Bradley Beach right near the gazebo on the boardwalk where Richie parked his car. I was so confused because there was not a restaurant in sight, he told me we had to walk a little bit to get to it and I’m thinking why did he park so far away? As we are getting out of the car and walking by the gazebo I see a photographer and realize Richie is no longer walking next to me, this is when my heart really started beating and I knew it had to be happening. Richie called my name and I turned around and he was down on one knee. I immediately was crying and in such shock that it was actually happening. We took pictures at our proposal spot and then drove back to Lake Como where we were greeted by our family and some of our closest friends and celebrated the night away.
